Ok guys I kept last months newsletter short and sweet. This month a lecture One thing that all fitness centers experience in the summer is that drop in classes and of course mine is no exception. What happens is that you fall out of your exercise routine and where is that going to lead you? Well its going to lead to that on going cycle that you have been on for years. One thing you have to get in you head especially if you are a person with a weight problem is the fact that exercise is a ongoing regiment and is crucial to your everyday life as eating and sleeping. With that being said the cycle goes something like this. January everyone and there mother is hitting the gyms to fullfill that New Years resolution that they made to themselves swearing that this year will be different then all the others and this is the year they will lose the weight. Statistics show that between 6 to 12 weeks after making this commitment, the majority will be back into there same old lifestyle due to those same excuses that they use year after year. Yes the same ones that knock you off the highway to success all the years before. I have no time, my family needs me, I'm bored, It's too hard, I'm too old, my dog ate my workout plan and food journal and many more excuses. Before you know it your back in the same lifestyle that has kept you overweight and out of shape all these years. Well now here comes March and with March comes the knowledge that you are going to be going on a summer vacations which means you are going to have to get your fat ass into a swim suit. So here you go again back into the gym and this time there is usually a time limit and it usually goes something like this. You will say to me " I have 60 days to lose 50 pounds so I can look good for my vacation" and with that statement you want me to pull my fairy dust out sprinkle you with it. You then go into your own exercise plan of attack because the first thing I tell you when you say something like that is "that is ludacris and crazy." That statement usually flys in the air over your head and out the window. Now you proceed on your own "I going to kill and starve myself diet and exercise plan " This is where you go crazy and exercise like a nut and eat like a bird. So you may and I stress may have a quick weight loss and again life is good. This is the point that you stop all fitness for the summer and release the hungry beast in you and fill up on all those vacation buffets and pig out at all of those barbeques and lay on your inflatable raft drinking pina coladas. That is until September comes when you realize that the vacation and all the barbeques and fun times during the summer months have made you gain all your weight back and now the holidays around the corner which means we will have to face our friends and family. AGAIN we make those plans to hit that gym and attend those aerobic classes and let's not forget eating like a bird. So now you are back on your" I have to lose 60 pounds in 45 days diet "and off you go to lose that weight again. Then the holidays start and boom AGAIN goodbye workouts hello holiday stress and holiday food. So November and December workouts go by the wayside because you are too busy to take care of yourself and where does that lead. If you said weight gain, stress, and not feeling good about yourself you are right. So now you make that News Years Resolution and here we are back to square one, only to repeat it again in 2010. See the cycle. Stay away from the cycle.This cycle will get you nowhere. This is not a lifestyle change. If is a quick fix to a obesity problem that is never going to go away on this cycle program. Patience is a virtue which is lacking in the quick fix cycle. Also lacking is the dedication to ones own body maintanence. As I have also stressed time and time again this is not only about weightloss it is about much more. Exercise is a key essential to a productive healthy, happy lifestyle. Everyone needs and should exercise, especially in this sit down technical world. You need to see exercise as you do sleeping and eating as part of a daily equation. There should be no breaks from exercising. BREAK THIS CYCLE. Get you asses to your classes and get moving. And by moving I mean moving. Don't be lazy about exercise. If your taking a walk put some effort into it don't just walk. Do some hills or power walk from one point to another. Don't just lay in your pool on a raft. Get your butt into the pool and start doing some laps. Don't just walk in the sand, run in the sand. And don't pig out. Look guys as I tell my girls all the time there is only about 15 -20 days of holidays. You are not getting obese on those days. When it comes to holidays I eat and drink as I please. I put no limitations on my celebration. Holidays are not making you out of shape. It is the rest of the 345 days a year. Enjoy holidays, eat on holidays. Watch the rest of the days. Now is the time to start thinking about getting in shape for the Winter Holidays not in September, not in October, NOW!!!!! By November if you start in July and you lose a pound or a little more a week you can lose 20-25 pounds safely and effectivly. Alright lecture over.
