I was talking on Saturday with Debbie and Vicki telling them how I have lost my love for running. I was kidding around saying maybe I should go see a sports psychologist. (Actually I was really thinking about it). In reality I have always had a love/hate with running. There have been times when I couldn't get enough of running and there are times that I just couldn't stomach the thought of a run.

Today I was scheduled for a run and even thought I am in a recovery phase of training which means I am not doing as much mileage I have cut back on the intensity, I still was at the point of not motivating myself to get the running workout in.

I decide to use the internet to maybe find some rationality as to why I should run today. What I found were quotes from runner's. That's when it hit me. This is why I do what I do. This is why I run. Every quote below hits home with me. The one that hit me today and got my bootie moving was:

"Running is a big question mark that's there each and every day. It asks you, 'Are you going to be a wimp or are you going to be strong today?'"
- Peter Maher, Canadian marathon runner

That was all I needed to get my ass out the door and run.

I plan on copying this off and putting it on my desk. And when I wonder again why, I will read the article below and remind myself of what I already know to be true.

I want to pass this on to my girls and guys. This is why I make you run. And already some of you know the power it holds. Read it and weep.

RUNNING MOTIVATIONAL QUOTES

Runners, especially long-distance runners, have a lot of time to think about why they run. At some point, you may question why you run and wonder if you should continue to get out there. When that happens, remember one of these motivational running quotes.

- Steve Prefontaine

"I always loved running...it was something you could do by yourself, and under your own power. You could go in any direction, fast or slow as you wanted, fighting the wind if you felt like it, seeking out new sights just on the strength of your feet and the courage of your lungs."

No one can say, 'You must not run faster than this, or jump higher than that.' The human spirit is indomitable."

You also need to look back, not just at the people who are running behind you but especially at those who don't run and never will... those who run but don't race...those who started training for a race but didn't carry through...those who got to the starting line but didn't in the finish line...those who once raced better than you but no longer run at all. You're still here. Take pride in wherever you finish. Look at all the people you've outlasted."
