Ok ladies summer is just flying by this year. I have a couple announcements to make for the month of August.
1. The Women in the Wild Adventure Challenge Training Sessions will begin this week. The sessions are free of charge and open to anyone who would like to come up to the Que and exercise with us. The schedule for this can be found of the following webpage:
Women in the Wild Training Sessions
We will meet at the Quemahoning Recreation Park Entrance at 8:30am Saturday mornings.
2. I want to acknowledge the great dedication to those who have been attending classes. Good Job. I know that is has been hard getting to classes because if you are anything like me you are thinking on those hot, humid days " I am going to die in class today". It has been so hot at the YWCA that we have been thinking about changing the name of the Bootcamp class to Detoxify Aerobics. Some people pay $100.00 for treatments to detoxify their bodies. You just need to come to class and not only will you get a good workout but we will detoxify your body as well for $4.00.
On the serious side ladies who are coming to class during these hot, humid day you need to hydrate, hydrate, hydrate. I cannot stress this enough. Also keep in mind heat is going to beat you down. So listen to your body and take it down if you feel you are working too hard. You should always ask yourself "How am I feeling?" Also remember heat thickens blood. I want to thank Lanelle and Cori for getting us 2 more fans for the room. That makes four fans and one air conditioner and we are still sweating to death.
3. I want to congratulate a friend of mine Kim Dawson for doing a great job in the Lake Placid Ironman. Congratulations Kim on your ironman success.
4. Also I want to thank all the sponsors so far that are sponsoring the Women in the Wild Adventure Challenge. Thank you so much for your support.
5. You will see that I included a article that interviewed Gabrielle Reece. When I read articles I always like to share ones that when I read the article I will say to myself " I couldn't say it any better myself" or I have preach the same message to you guys as what the article is saying. So with that said this is a great article and I couldn't say it better myself.
6. Ok my lecture for this month is WATCH THAT SUGAR. Start reading those nutrition labels and see exactly how much sugar you are consuming. You will be shock at what you find out. I am not talking about carbohydrates here women, I am talking about sugar itself. The average sugar allowance for an adult is 40-44 grams of sugar. Start looking at the food labels of everything you are putting in you mouth and see how much sugar it contains. Why is this important? Well for one thing foods with high sugar and no nutritional value can send you flying high and then send you crashing down. It brings on fatigue and keeps you hungry so your eating all day long. The first line of defense is not bring the stuff into your house. And please don't use your kids as a excuse of why the stuff in in the house in the first place. You are the parent and you need to take responsibility for your families health. Bringing sugar loaded products into the house is just setting everyone in your household up for weight gain and other health problems like diabetes in the future. I know some of you are saying " I can't help it I look into my childs eyes and I just have to give them that candy bar". Well picture this. Picture your child 20 years from now looking at you with those same eyes and being 60 pounds overweight with health issues. You think you are doing them a favor by purchasing the foods they like because you are thinking short term gratitude, but in the long term your are doing them a great disservice setting them up for a unhealthy lifestyle in the future. Now again I must point out I love my sugar but sugar can be kept for special occasions like birthdays, holidays, and other special events, but everyday living the sugar needs to be controlled. So next time you are out shopping leave the sugar products with no nutritional value at the store.
Ok everyone have a wonderful August. Get outside and enjoy the rest of the summer. Walk anything friend, cat, dog, kids, husband. Stay Active and Stay Healthy........Marcia
